Posted on January 12, 2017
Kevin Dodd, President of Essex Steam Train & Riverboat, has announced the retirement of J. David Conrad as Chief Mechanical Officer. Conrad joined the staff at Essex Steam Train/Valley Railroad Company in March 1986, and celebrated his retirement on December 31, 2016.
“It has been an honor and a privilege for David Conrad to serve as the Chief Mechanical Officer for our railroad,” shares Dodd. “During his tenure with our organization, we have safely operated thousands of trains, transporting hundreds of thousands of passengers back in time for a one-of-a-kind experience. Dave was responsible for establishing many of our maintenance, restoration and safety systems, mentoring an entire generation of mechanics who will serve on our rails and on the rails of this nation.”
As Chief Mechanical Officer (CMO), Conrad has been responsible for overseeing all activities of the maintenance and equipment of rolling stock – locomotives and cars – at Essex Steam Train in a safe and effective manner. He has also been involved in project planning and budgeting throughout the years. “Many people don’t expect a CMO to be involved in daily operations of the organization and event planning, but I have made a point to get involved,” he noted.
Conrad is handing over the title to his long-time colleague Wayne Hebert.”
