Posted on June 2, 2016

ESSEX, CT (June 2, 2016) – The Essex Steam Train & Riverboat in Essex, Connecticut, today announced plans to participate in the 12th Annual Connecticut Open House Day – a unified celebration of the state’s fascinating world of art, history and tourism – on June 11, 2016. During this one-day event, Essex Steam Train, along with more than 200 other organizations and attractions throughout the state, will open its doors and offer special incentives (discounts, free admission, free gifts, special offers, etc.) to visitors.

This exciting statewide event, sponsored by the Connecticut Office of Tourism (COT), is designed to broaden awareness among residents of Connecticut’s exceptional cultural and tourism assets and encourage them to become ambassadors who share their newfound discoveries with visiting family and friends.

Essex Steam Train is thrilled to offer free rides for kids on June 11. Children ages 11 and under qualify for this special offering, and must be accompanied by an adult passenger. Seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. To qualify for any Open House Day special, at least one person in each visiting group must show a valid Connecticut driver’s license.

“Essex Steam Train & Riverboat is delighted to share this Open House Day event with the residents of Connecticut,” says Kevin Dodd, President of the Valley Railroad Company. “The purpose of the ‘Kids Ride Free’ offering is to encourage Connecticut residents to rediscover, or experience for the first time, the history, beauty and excitement of the Essex Steam Train & Riverboat’s sightseeing journey. We’re inviting Connecticut families to experience this wonderful treasure that exists right outside their backdoors – the only steam train and riverboat connection in the country.”

Connecticut Open House Day also includes opportunities to become a Connecticut Ambassador as part of COT’s Ambassador Program, an ongoing initiative designed to cultivate pride among residents in the state’s many diverse historic, arts, tourism and entertainment treasures.
