Essex Steam Train & Riverboat’s 2 1/2-hour journey begins at the historic 1892 Essex Station for a 12-mile, narrated round-trip into the heart of the unspoiled Connecticut River Valley. The steam locomotive pulls vintage coaches through the quintessential New England towns of Deep River and Chester.
Pedal a Rail-Bike for a 8 mile round trip adventure over moderate terrain from Essex Station south to Old Saybrook and return; passing along the Preserve (The Preserve is a 963 acre forest located in the towns of Old Saybrook, Essex and Westbrook. It was recognized as the largest remaining unprotected coastal forest between Boston and New York before its acquisition for conservation) while enjoying the stunning New England spring weather. Upon returning to Essex Station, hop on board our vintage coach train cars to enjoy a 2.5 hour train & riverboat excursion north through the Lower Connecticut River Valley and on the Connecticut River.
